Last week my dog, Pituca, turned 10, so I decided to make her some cupcakes to celebrate.
These are vegan carrot and peanut butter cupcakes, adapted with dog friendly ingredients. It’s not as sweet as the cakes we usually eat, but otherwise you can also enjoy them with your pet.
1 medium carrot
3 dates without pits
2 tbsp ground flax seeds + 200 mL water
1 cup ground oats/oat flour
1 tbsp brown sugar
3 tbsp peanut butter
2 tsp baking powder
Soak the dates in hot water for 10 minutes. Mix the fax seeds and water and let rest for 10 minutes, or until it gets a jelly aspect
Peel the carrot, chop it and put it in a food processor. Drain the dates, chop and add to the food processor. Blend until finely grated and well mixed.
In a bowl, add the grated carrot and dates, and the remaining ingredients.
Pre-heat the oven at 200C/390F. Divide the batter in cupcake molds, or in a small cake pan. Take it to the oven for 20-25 minutes. Let it cool before feeding your pet. This recipe makes 8 small cupcakes.
Important: Remember that foods such as grapes, avocado, chocolate, onion, garlic, alcohol, macadamia nuts, yeast dough, etc, are bad for dogs. Always do some research before feeding your dog anything other than dog food.
